Timothy R. Barakett
Timothy R. Barakett is the Chairman of TRB Advisors LP (“TRB”), a private investment firm formed to manage his family’s capital. TRB invests directly in public and private markets, and provides capital and strategic support to a number of asset managers and specialty finance firms.
Mr. Barakett is the Co-Founder and Non-Executive Chairman of Stabilis Capital Management, LP, an asset-oriented alternative credit manager. Stabilis invests in secured commercial loans acquired principally from banks, other financial institutions, and special servicers to CMBS trusts. Since 2010, Stabilis has raised six investment funds with total capital commitments in excess of $1.7 billion.
Mr. Barakett is the Co-Founder and a member of the Board of Directors of GreyCastle Holdings Ltd, a Bermuda-based life and annuity reinsurer with approximately $5 billion in assets.
Mr. Barakett is a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Castleton Commodities International (CCI). CCI is a global merchant energy company that creates value through physical and financial trading, logistics optimization and infrastructure development. Castleton has over 900 employees across four continents.
From 1995 until 2010, Mr. Barakett was the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Atticus Capital LP, a global investment management firm. From its inception in 1995 to its closing, funds managed by Atticus generated over $7 billion in profits for its investors. The Atticus Global Fund, which Mr. Barakett managed, returned 19.3% net per annum, compared to the S&P 500’s return of 3.9% over the same period.
Prior to founding Atticus Capital, Mr. Barakett was a Managing Director at Junction Advisors, an investment management company specializing in risk arbitrage, and earlier in his career he was a Senior Associate at Battery Ventures, a venture capital firm.
Mr. Barakett is the Co-Chairman of The Harvard Campaign for Arts and Sciences, the Co-Chairman for Financial Aid of The Harvard Campaign for Arts and Sciences, and is a member of the Harvard University Capital Campaign Executive Committee. Mr. Barakett is also a trustee of the Dalton School and is an honorary trustee of the New York Public Library, where he previously served as a trustee. Mr. Barakett was previously a trustee of The Mount Sinai Hospital and Continuum Health Partners. Mr. Barakett founded the Timothy and Michele Barakett Foundation.
Mr. Barakett holds a B.A. degree in economics from Harvard and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School. An ice hockey player in college, Mr. Barakett was drafted by the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils, played professionally for EV Zug in the Swiss National League, and was a member of Team Canada when it won the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.
A Canadian citizen, Mr. Barakett lives in New York City with his wife and two children.
Heath L. Watkin
Heath L. Watkin is the President and Chief Investment Officer of TRB Advisors LP. Previously, Mr. Watkin was a Managing Director at Atticus Capital, where he focused on special situations and deep value investments. Mr. Watkin is a member of the Board of Directors of GreyCastle Holdings, Ltd. and Goji Insurance.
Mr. Watkin holds a B.S.E. degree in engineering and finance from Princeton University. He received his M.B.A with high distinction as a Baker Scholar from the Harvard Business School.
James S. Goodwin
James S. Goodwin is a Senior Advisor to TRB Advisors LP. Mr. Goodwin is the Founder and Managing Member of Half Moon, LLC, a private investment firm. On January 1, 2018, Mr. Goodwin was appointed the President of Riverview Investment Holdings. Riverview owns and operates electric generating assets with approximately 1,500 megawatts of capacity.
In addition to his roles at Half Moon and Riverview, over the past 15 years Mr. Goodwin has served as a financial advisor to Atticus Capital, Kiewit Corporation, Valmont Industries and selected other companies. From 1990-1998, Mr. Goodwin was a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Gleacher & Co., an M&A boutique, and from 1984-1990 worked in Morgan Stanley’s M&A department. From 1978-1982, Mr. Goodwin worked as a CPA at Arthur Andersen & Co.
Mr. Goodwin currently serves on the board of The Koch Institute at MIT, a leading cancer research institute and Santa Fe Prep, a private educational institute. Throughout his career, Mr. Goodwin has served on a range of Boards of Directors in both the private and public sectors. In 1992, Mr. Goodwin served as special advisor to Mr. Mark McLarty, White House Chief of Staff.
Mr. Goodwin received a B.S. in Accounting from Virginia Tech in 1978 and received an M.B.A. from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business in 1982. Mr. Goodwin was awarded the Gold Medal from Virginia’s Society of CPAs and the Elijah Watt Sells award from the American Institute of CPAs for his performance on the May 1978 CPA examination.
Matthew J. Edmonds
Matthew J. Edmonds is a Senior Advisor to TRB Advisors LP. Mr. Edmonds was most recently the President and a Principal at Hutchin Hill Capital LP, a global multi-strategy investment firm.
Prior to joining Hutchin Hill in 2014, he was CEO of TRB Advisors LP. Prior to TRB, Mr. Edmonds was President, Partner and Member of the Management Committee at Atticus Capital. Mr. Edmonds came to Atticus Capital after a nine year tenure at Morgan Stanley & Co., where his experience included mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and general management. From 1990 to 1993, Mr. Edmonds was an attorney at Mallesons Stephen Jaques, a leading Australian commercial law firm. He is Trustee of the JAMAKEPE Foundation, a private family foundation focused on enhancing Australian-American relations through educational scholarships and grants.
Mr. Edmonds received Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws (Honors) degrees from the University of Melbourne and an M.B.A. from the Columbia Business School.
